Hi,
My name is Davis Caldwell. I broke both my legs when I was 15 by diving into an empty pool
for a trick video--I know.
Pretty stupid.
While waiting for a bed in rehab I spent 2 weeks at
the Valley View Respite Care Center in Las Vegas. I was terrified to be away from my
parents and I felt bad because I wasn't as bad off as most of the residents.
Also the drugs gave me nightmares. Sleep paralysis demons are…super terrifying.
Anyway, Alex Haley was my nurse and I really took to him because I’d just come out of the closet to my friends and never felt comfortable telling adults. He coded himself in a way that made me and I’m sure other LGBTQ parents/kids feel safe and seen.
I know you are getting letters from randoms who think he has been inappropriate but I wanted to give
a perspective of a former patient. I’m 22 now and attached is the signatures from a few other former residents I found who feel he should not be terminated because of off work
activities.
My generation knows how the internet works and don’t see any harm in what was put online. So many patients will benefit from his care.
Thank you,
Davis Caldwell, University of Texas Class of 2020 President
